Our small class sizes ensure our lessons are very communicative and particularly benefit students who wish to develop their confidence in English.
Students wishing to take the IELTS exam may do a comprehensive preparation course as part of the year-round programme at the school**. Although the IELTS exam can be taken throughout the year, our preparation courses run from January, March, June and September.
Preparation for other exams, such as the Cambridge First Certificate may be available depending on student numbers. Please contact us for further details.
*with the exception of usual school holidays, such as Christmas and Easter. Please contact us for specific details of school holidays.
**exam fees are not included in the course price. Please see the IELTS web site for up-to-date exam costs.

General Information/Things you should know
Who? We accept students of all abilities onto our general English courses, subject to availability, but we may need to restrict entry for exam preparation courses or other specific subjects. If you are from a non-EU country and wish to study in the UK for more than 6 months you must observe the UK Borders Agency rules on entry levels. All our students will be asked to take an entry test either before coming to the UK, or on the first day of the course. We have a minimum enrolment age of 18 for adult courses.
When? We run adult courses all year round so it is possible for students to start a general English course on any Monday throughout the year. However, we do close the school for seasonal holidays - please contact us for specific dates. Students taking 1:1 tuition can study at any time of the year, except for weekends and national bank holidays. Students taking group exam preparation classes will need to enrol in either January, April or September.
What books do I need? CILS will supply you with a course book and any additional material you need for your course. However, some students prefer to buy their books so they can take them home. We can help you with this once when you arrive at the school. Course books cost approximately £20.
How many students will be in my class? We have a maximum of 8 students per class for adult courses because we want you to feel comfortable. Because our groups are small, students have more opportunities to practice their spoken English and the teacher can find your mistakes much quicker!
Do I get a certificate? All students will be given a certificate and a progress report from your their teacher when they leave the school.
